Vehicle-related insecurity and crime are of concern to the manufacturing sectors of the automotive marketing, insurance and finance sectors, which have released a joint statement calling for the immediate implementation of measures to deal with them.

It is about the Association of Automobile Companies of Ecuador (Aeade), the Ecuadorian Association of Insurance Companies (Fedeseg), the Association of Banks of Ecuador (Assobanca) and the Chamber of Companies for Programmed Purchases (Aecop-Corporent), which presented alarming numbers of crimes related to vehicles.

They stated that according to the data of the State Attorney’s Office, from January to July of this year, 5,900 applications for alienation of vehicles and 8,822 alienation of motorcycles were recorded, while in the same period in 2021, 3,611 applications for alienation of vehicles and 4,756 motorcycles were recorded. Citing the same source, Fedeseg reported that 11,372 vehicles and 14,567 motorcycles were stolen in 2022.

Insurers paid more than $152 million for car accidents in the first half of 2023, up 18% from 2022.

In this context, the trade unions propose:
