For the first time, Ecuador will have a business conference specialized in pitahaya. It will be between November 30 and December 2 as part of the Pitahaya National Fair, which will be held in the canton of Palora, in the province of Morona Santiago.

The Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, Daniel Legarda, met this week with Palora authorities to coordinate support and promotion activities for the official launch of the event organized by ProEcuador together with the canton’s GAD.

The first shipment of 7.7 tons of Ecuadorian pitahaya is flying to China

Importers from Spain, the Netherlands, the United States, Peru, Italy and China will personally participate in the fair and business conference, the latter country being one of the main destinations for the exotic Ecuadorian fruit and having recently opened its market last April for yellow pitahaya.

The first delivery, of 7,745 kg of fruit, was made on April 10, making the Asian giant join the 58 countries where Ecuadorian fruit already arrives, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) reported.

Palora is one of the main yellow pitahaya production areas in Ecuador, with plantations covering around 2,400 hectares. In 2022, Ecuador exported more than 23,000 tons of fruit to different destinations, representing more than 99 million dollars.
