The congressman Alejandro Cavero of Avanza País has presented the bill to privatize the state company Petroperú. In addition, it seeks to authorize the sale of shares so that they can be placed on the stock market and can be acquired by natural or legal persons. In the event that the State remains the majority shareholder, The company will be organized as a state company with private shareholders, the document states.

“Petroperú would have the regulatory tools to stop being a 100% state company and become a mixed capital company. In this way, the technical capabilities and demands for efficiency and good corporate management of the private sector could contribute to improving the poor management that the company has had until now,” is stated in the bill.

Legislative initiative 5977 also proposes creating a technical review commission of the company to carry out a diagnosis of its current corporate governance and financial well-being with the objective of preparing a report that will contain specific measures to improve its efficiency and to enhance the attraction of private capital.

The working group would have 7 members and would have 2 years to issue its report after the norm is promulgated. These would be your representatives:

  • Ministry of Economy and Finance (1)
  • Ministry of Energy and Mines (1)
  • Mining, Petroleum and Energy Society (1)
  • College of Engineers of Peru (1)
  • ProInversion (1)
  • Licensed universities (2)

The document must be evaluated by the Congressional committees before being debated and approved in Plenary.
