Provincial Municipality of Talara: Petroperú must operate 100% of lots VI and

The mayor of the Provincial Municipality of TalaraSigifredo Juan Zárate Vite, revealed that the current companies seeking to renew their contracts in the oil fields of the northwest “did not make major investments” to increase production or replenish reserves, nor did they represent a before and after for social development in their area of influence, as was offered during privatization.

In an interview for the local radio station Radiofuego Talara, Zárate Vite said that Petroperú must have a direct participation in the lots, especially “those that have guaranteed production for many years”, specifically fields VI (Sapet) and X (CNPC ).

“Petroperú should participate in the other lots accompanied by a private or private company that guarantees the exploration, because until now the model that has been developed with private companies has not found new areas,” he indicated in the Democracy program, hosted by Alejandro Vílchez.

In this sense, the mayor said that these companies “were only dedicated to extracting the crude oil discovered by Petroperú,” while their workers were compensated with minimum wages “at the expense of large profits resulting from oil exploitation.”

On the other hand, Zárate reported that last Thursday the 14th the mayors of Talara met to request, through letter, a meeting with Perupetro to be given more details of the Social Fund, conditions of the new contracts and social nature of the reversion. They have not received a response.

According to the mayor, allocating 1% to the Social Fund is “an insufficient percentage” compared to the 2.5% of the lots in the jungle, considering levels of poverty and extreme poverty in the province.

“It is clear that there are very strong economic interests; Petroperú is demonized, calling it inefficient when it is known from life experience that it does have capacity,” he concluded.
