CGTP: unions and worker unions reject reprivatization of the Talara lots

The General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) This Monday, it expressed its rejection of a possible reprivatization of Talara’s oil blocks VI and Z-2B, whose contracts will expire in the next two months.

Through a statement, the union organization also questioned Confiep’s proposal, which seeks to extend the contracts of the current operators for three years and until the change of command, given the process initiated by Perupetro to revert the lots to Petroperú.

“They are only interested in profiting and obtaining greater profits without having invested in exploring new oil lots in the last 30 years. Then, they intend to privatize the North Peruvian Oil Pipeline (ONP), all the lots in the country and the new Talara Refinery (NRT).” said the CGTP.

CGTP specified that, based on the “failed” privatization process of the northwest, which began in the nineties, crude oil reserves and national production were reduced.

In addition, he recalled that the international specialized consulting firm Wood Mackenzie recommended since 2015 that Petroperú return to the operation of the lots surrounding the NRT, with the aim of financially consolidating the country’s first company.

“We demand that the State provide taps to Petroperú throughout the country to regulate the anti-national voracity of companies, mostly foreign, as well as taps that raise prices exorbitantly,” the organization said.

“We will take to the streets to fight against the rising cost of living, citizen insecurity and for the defense of our natural and energy resources, as well as for the state company Petroperú,” he added.
