The Acobamaba and Colqui remediation project located in the province of Huarochirí (Lima), which involved the closure of 39 environmental liabilities that impacted the watersheds of Quebrada Santa Rosa and Quebrada Collque – upper part, entered the post-closure process, reported the state company Activos Mineros SAC (Amsac).
The company reported that the project benefits about 2,500 residents of Huanza and the Acobamba annex. In addition, he specified that the recovery of the area affected by environmental liabilities required an investment of S / 24.7 million.
“In the post-closure phase, which lasts for five years, the activities to be carried out are the maintenance and monitoring of the project, which aim to ensure the physical, chemical and hydrological stability of the remediated mining environmental liabilities,” he said. the Operations Manager, Ysmael Ormeño.
The official added that, at this stage, as in the execution of works, local labor is prioritized, which generates jobs for the population of the area; in addition to continuing with the technical learning on mining environmental remediation by the community.
Previously, the general manager of Amsac, Antonio Montenegro, detailed that the conclusion of the environmental closure of the aforementioned project not only benefits the health of the population and the ecosystem, but also its execution has favored the economy of the communities involved, through hiring of local labor, food services, accommodation and transportation, among other associates.
