He Matarani Portlocated in Arequipa, moved a total of 773,000 tons of cargo in August, a new historical record in the 24 years of concession held by Terminal Internacional del Sur SA (Tisur), which exceeds by 21% what was registered in the same month of the year 2022.
According to the company, this increase in cargo movement responds mainly to the better operational and logistical conditions of the mining industry in the south of the country, as well as greater volumes of other cargo, such as Bolivian cargo and bulk cargo in general.
To date, 2018 has been the year with the highest record of movement of all types of cargo in the port of Matarani with 6.7 million tons received in said period.
“In 24 years we have supported important projects in sectors such as mining, food industry, construction and agribusiness for more than 150,000 million, which in turn have generated more than 200,000 jobs throughout the region,” highlighted Mauricio Núñez del Prado, general manager of Tisur.
However, in 2023 it is projected to break this historical record and close in December with 7.4 million tons moved, which represents 9.5% more than what was recorded in 2018.
This is possible thanks to a series of investments for more than S/1,200 million made by Tisur to improve infrastructure, equipment and management of the port of Matarani in the last 24 years, which have allowed it to multiply its productivity by more than 400%. .
Thus, in 1999 the total productivity of the terminal was 165 tons per hour, while to date it is 832 tons, Tisur stressed. For example, for mining alone, between dock F and dock C, it has reached a total mineral storage capacity of 450,000 static tons, with systems of 2,300 and 1,500 shipping tons per hour, respectively.
