Civil construction workers will have salary improvements: wages will rise to S/4.20

The Federation of Civil Construction Workers of Peru (FTCCP) and the Peruvian Chamber of Construction (Capeco) signed this Friday, September 8, the 2023-2024 Collective Agreement agreement on salary improvements and implementation of a fund for the training of workers.

“The salary increase in a time of crisis and inflation is important for workers, but it must be highlighted that we are giving a lot of emphasis to the issue of training in a country where there is no training for work, the effort of businessmen and workers is relevant,” Luis Villanueva, general secretary of the FTCCP, told La República.

Thus, apart from the increase in wages, it was agreed to create a training fund for workers in the sector, whose financing will be the responsibility of employers who will contribute S/0.20 per day for each employee.

Likewise, Villanueva highlighted that the federation has 220,000 participants, but that the benefit, which will be valid from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, Applies to all workers in the civil construction sector, whether unionized or not. “The only requirement is that the budget for the works exceeds 50 UIT,” he added.

For his part, Alejandro Garland, Vice President of the Capeco Suppliers Committee, who attended on behalf of Guido Valdivia (executive director of the business union) who could not be present for health reasons, also specified the importance of the agreement for the training of employees. of the sector.

“There are two aspects that we have tried to take care of in this negotiation, one is to defend employment because it is affecting us, there are tens of thousands of workers who have lost their jobs. The other is to take care of our pact, which is one of our most valuable assets and an example for other unions“, he indicated during the ceremony this Friday.

What agreements were reached regarding the salary increase?

The 2023-2024 collective agreement establishes an increase in the basic salary of S/4.20 for operators, S/3.30 for officers and S/3 for laborers. Thus, an increase of 5.25% is achieved in the three aforementioned categories. In detail, wages for eight hours will be set at S/80.70, S/66.45 and S/59.80, respectively.

Likewise, an increase in the High Specialization Bonus (BAE) for welders was agreed, which will go from 15% to 17%, and for electromechanics, from 18% to 20%.
