Lot 8: Petrotal disqualified for not meeting net worth, Perupetro goes for Upland

Perupetro reported that Petrotal was left out of the race for Block 8 of Loreto, whose oil production capacity exceeds 6,000 barrels per day (bdp), because the Canadian capital company did not certify the net worth necessary to cover the operation commitments.

In dialogue with La República, the president of Perupetro, Isabel Tafur, said that, as with any contractor company, the agency carried out the economic evaluation of Petrotal and concluded that “its net worth does not cover all the comprisms it has, not only in Lot 8, but in Lot 95”.

“Petrotal did not qualify and went to the second bidder that presented the best offer, which is America Upland, which now operates in Block XXIII (it is in the exploration stage). The papers have already been requested and must be presented this week,” Tafur remitted.

“If Upland does not qualify, we will qualify the third, which is Cheiron (Egypt), and if not, unfortunately another process will be done,” he added.

In this sense, the head of Perupetro stated that they maintain the expectation of relaunching the production of Loreto Block 8 in 2023, by virtue of the “brief processes by invitation” that the Organic Law on Hydrocarbons (LOH) authorizes.

“We’re not going to take that long. [en reanudar la operación del Lote 8], we can do short processes processes by invitation. We didn’t expect this to happen, but unfortunately it did,” Tafur said.

Before the end of the year we will have the contract signed because it is not only the issue of signing the contract and entering into production, but a social issue that comes after it: the communities ask that we reactivate the lot because it generates jobs and other economic activities around them,” he said later.

It should be noted that Perupetro not only has the new contracts for Block 8 on the agenda, but also for blocks I, VI and Z-69, whose direct negotiations have already begun with Petroperú. Isabel Tafur estimates that they will all be resolved between the second of November and the first of December.
