LAP: “We do not request addenda or changes to the contract for the new Jorge Chávez”

Lima Airport Partners (LAP) ruled out having proposed changes to the concession contract for the future operation of the New Jorge Chávez. Instead, he clarified that he had proposed an update of the airport development master plan, “which is a living document that is adjusting to the market and context in accordance with the good practices of the airport industry.”

“We have received the notification from the MTC where this request is declared inadmissible, with a series of arguments that we will support in due course. We are currently analyzing our next actions according to what is established in the concession contract ”, said the company.

Through a statement, LAP said that it had reformulated the operating strategy of the new airport to face the “uncertain scenarios resulting from this pandemic”, always seeking to comply with its contractual commitments.

“In September 2020, LAP rethought the strategy under a temporary dual operation, that is, using two terminals. This strategy maximizes the efficient use of the existing infrastructure, both airport and road, in addition to including improvements to the existing terminal with an investment of more than USD 100 million. This new plan was communicated in December 2020 to the MTC, Ositrán, as well as other publics related to the airport, in order to collect their contributions and consider them in said strategy, “said the concessionaire.

The new terminal will be delivered in 2025 and will have an area of more than 160,000 m² and together with the existing terminal will offer a combined area of 250,000 m².

Subsequently, in accordance with the master plan presented, new extensions will be carried out that will begin in 2028 and 2035, which will allow the new terminal to expand it to a total estimated area of 310,000 m², and thus ensure growth that is ahead of demand. projected and always in compliance with the concession contract.

LAP: Jorge Chávez with more capacity

In 2025, the Jorge Chávez International Airport will have a combined service capacity of 35 million passengers per year, with an efficient growth of the infrastructure that will gradually lead us to operate with a single terminal, possibly before 2035. In its stage of final expansion, it is estimated will have a capacity of 60 million passengers.

“LAP maintains its commitment to deliver new airport infrastructure to Peru in 2022 (second runway, new Control Tower and others) and a new passenger terminal in 2025. It is important to note that both terminals will provide the same optimal level of service , complying with all the technical requirements (RTMs) demanded in our concession contract, and aimed at satisfying the hundreds of millions of passengers and users of the Jorge Chávez ”, he concluded.
