Midagri: Catastrophic Agrarian Insurance compensated 61,154 hectares in the previous agricultural campaign

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (midagri), during the previous agricultural season that ended on July 31, with the Catastrophic Agrarian Insurance (SAC), compensated 61,154 hectares affected by droughts and floods, for an accumulated amount of S/48.9 million in the north and south of the country, reported the head of the sector, Nelly Walls of the Castle.

“72.18% of this insurance has been used in the management that I am directing because we began a very aggressive work with the regional governments,” said the minister during her presentation at the Agrarian Commission of Congress.

Likewise, he announced that for the current agricultural campaign, Midagri will establish the Co-financed Agricultural Insurance. The new package may be purchased even by farmers who are delinquent in Agrobanco or another financial entity. The ministry will cover 80% of the cost of the premium and the producer will only pay the remaining 20%.

“If there were any weather phenomenon, the insurance would be covering the entire value of the production and not only like the SAC, which covers S/800 per hectare (…) and it will not only be for Agrobanco, but we will also be able to work with all the (municipal) savings banks,” said Paredes del Castillo.

Along the same lines, the minister also highlighted that some improvements have been made to the SAC to guarantee coverage for the largest number of farmers affected by climatic phenomena. Among these modifications is the inclusion of 100% of crops and without a minimum of hectares.

In addition, the period for registration in the registers was reduced from 30 to 10 days. The renewed policy will go into effect this month.
