How is the ‘glue thread’ method used by thieves to rob houses: in Spain they dismantle a network linked to seven attacks

The ‘glue wire’ method is not new in Spain, but the number of burglaries using this technique increased in a short time and there were complaints, some since July last year, in at least four provinces.

The National Police reported on Wednesday, August 23 that “they have dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to violently committing robberies in homes, marking them with the glue-wire method.”

What is the glue thread method

The gang that deals with these types of attacks take their time to study the victims and generally they are on the hunt for empty houses to get their claws out.

How do you check whether a home is empty, because the family is on vacation, for example?

The thieves recently arrested in Spain had this modus operandi: “They placed small plastic markers or glue threads between the window frame and the entrance door to determine whether the houses were empty,” reported Antena 3.

Once that “task” is done, they return to find that no one is there, that they have not returned and that’s when they decide to move in to attack. In some cases, they enter the properties using methods that do not damage the door or lock, such as bumping, imprisoning, picking, or the like, as Antena 3 describes.

When someone enters their house, these glue trails fall to the floor or the wire breaks without the owner noticing.

According to what was published in El Español, this method is often used by organized groups from Eastern Europe to commit the robberies.

The same medium pointed out that “to gain access to the houses and commit the robberies, they used different methods such as breaking the lock, slipping, using a fake key or using leverage.”

The thieves “grab at the highest floors, because there is less traffic from neighbors. They choose houses with old and easy-to-open locks,” Las Provincias reviewed at the end of 2020 about robberies in Alicante.

Where did they commit the last burglaries?

The detainees are three men of Georgian nationality, the government’s sub-delegation in Malaga said, also on social networks.

El Español has specified the ages of the people arrested: they are men aged 32, 37 and 54.

“Seven burglaries in homes in the provinces of Malaga, Alicante, Jaen and Murcia have been cleared up so far,” the police station said.

What did they think about the prisoners? According to Antena 3, “jewellery, watches, money and stolen items were seized from homes. In addition, a tube of glue and material used in the attacks were found.”
