Working together to ensure that shrimp exported to the United States is of the best quality is part of the goals of the Regulatory Association Agreement signed by the Department of Manufacturing, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

“This agreement is crucial given that shrimp is our main non-oil export product and the United States is the second destination for the export of this product. Guaranteeing strict compliance with quality and safety standards is our priority”, said the head of the state portfolio Daniel Legarda during a ceremony held on Thursday, August 24, as part of the anniversary of the Undersecretary for Quality and Food Safety (SCI), in Guayaquil.

For his part, the director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, Donald Prater, pointed out that this agreement will enable a better vision of standards, regulations and initiatives for the export of shrimp. He also indicated that this is the first agreement of this kind that they have signed with another country, in this case with Ecuador.

From January to June of this year, from the export of shrimp to the United States, the income for Ecuador was 684 million dollars. In addition, the North American country is the second non-oil export destination, earning $2.124 million in the same period, according to the State Portfolio, which also noted in its report that shrimp leads the list of non-oil exports, with Ecuador recording 3,836 in the first half of the year. million dollars in sales.
