Petróleos del Perú SA – Petroperú reported that, as part of the final phase of the commissioning of the New Talara Refinery (NRT), the torch (flare) of the refinery complex will present “larger intermittent flares”, as a result of the tests of the relief and exhaust systems of the different equipment.
The drill, which will take place over the next few days and for a limited time, is part of the schedule with which the NRT will complete its gradual start-up process to 100%. The Minister of Energy and Mines himself, Oscar Vera, had anticipated that the plant would be ready towards the end of this month.
Through a statement, Petroperú explained that sounds will be perceived as a result of the emission of water vapor used as a displacement fluid in the deep conversion and sulfuric acid units.
It is important to highlight that these activities, as well as the events associated with the flare and sounds, are expected situations, totally normal and necessary in any start-up process of refineries around the world.
These operations are described in their operating procedures and manuals, which will guarantee correct and safe operation of the NRT, according to Petroperú.
“Petroperú reaffirms its commitment to maintain permanent communication with the population, for which reason the main actions undertaken as part of the final phase of the gradual and progressive start-up of the modern refining complex through the channels will continue to be reported in a timely manner. company officials and the Citizen Information and Participation Office,” the state oil company highlighted.
