Proinversión calls for an international public tender for the Puerto Maldonado WWTP

The Private Investment Promotion Agency (Porinversión) announced the new call for the international public tender for the concession delivery of the project “Improvement of the Sewerage and Wastewater Treatment System of the City of Puerto Maldonado, Tambopata district, Tambopata province, department Madre de Dios” (WWTP Puerto Maldonado).

This project will be developed through the Public-Private Association (APP) modality commissioned by the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS). The estimated investment, without including VAT, amounts to US$89 million, and the concession term will be 22 years.

The remuneration to the concessionaire will be made under the mechanism of Payment for Availability (PPD) of the service, subject to deductions for performance, where the State, through the MVCS, will assume 100% of the remuneration for the investment component.

The bases, which contain the conditions and requirements to participate in the contest, as well as the corresponding schedule of activities, are available to interested parties on the institutional portal of Proinversión.

The previous bidding process was abandoned last June, so Proinversión and the MVCS coordinated closely to launch this new call and finalize its award in the shortest possible time.

For this reason, they are also working in coordination with the authorities of the Madre de Dios region, the province of Tambopata and the district of Las Piedras.

WWTP Puerto Maldonado: water for 110,000 Peruvians

The Puerto Maldonado WWTP project includes the construction, rehabilitation, expansion, operation and maintenance of the collection, treatment and final disposal systems for municipal wastewater in the city of Puerto Maldonado.

Under the PPP scheme, the focus goes beyond construction, as it ensures the sustainability of the project in the long term, thus allowing proper operation and maintenance of the primary collection system and wastewater treatment.

“With high quality standards, avoiding contamination of the Tambopata and Madre de Dios rivers,” highlighted Proinversión.

WWTP Puerto Maldonado is part of the MVCS strategy, which together with the Large Cities Project and the Storm Drainage Project that will be executed under the public works modality, will allow it to close the gaps in drinking water, sewerage, wastewater treatment and drainage of rainwater in Puerto Maldonado, benefiting more than 110,000 people.
