The contracting of mobile services on public roads violates the rights of users and exposes them to being victims of identity theft, even to being involved in criminal acts, such as extortion, recalled the Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel).
For this reason, according to the regulations of the regulatory body, citizens must go only to authorized offices and points of sale of the operating companies at the national level, in case they wish to contract their public telecommunications services in person.
How to find authorized place?
Osiptel reported that throughout Peru, there are more than 40,000 points of sale reported by the operating companies to the regulatory bodywhere those interested can contract their services not only for mobile telephony, but also for fixed lines, cable television and internet.
To locate them, you can enter the Osiptel User Information Portal (HERE), where you will find the list by operating company, by department, province, as well as the specific address.
Of the total, 18,035 points of sale correspond to the operating company Bitel, 9,278 to Claro, 8,326 to Movistar and 4,991 to Entel. Regarding distributors’ points of sale, 8,326 belong to Movistar, 8,106 to Claro, 4,991 to Entel and 17,710 to Bitel.
By regions, Lima and Callao They concentrate the largest number of points of sale (11,146). they follow him piura (2,825), Freedom (2,304), cajamarca (2,259), Arequipa (2,084), Cusco (2,077), Fist (1,798) and ancash (1,757).
A different situation is seen in the number of offices or service centers, where companies can answer user queries and allow the submission of requests and claims, since only 810 offices (centers and service points) of the four main operating companies are counted. at the national level.
Measures that prevent street sales
As recalled, Osiptel issued additional measures to strengthen the security of user information in the contracting and chip replacement processes in the public mobile service. The regulation establishes service centers or points of sale with a specific address, previously reported to the regulator, as authorized means for contracting mobile services, in order to avoid outpatient sales.
The virtual channel (web or mobile application), the address indicated by the requester of the service (delivery) or exceptionally in traveling fairs (under certain rules) are also considered.
Likewise, minimum rules are stipulated with respect to these channels, so that the contracting of the service is carried out providing sufficient information to the user and the ownership of the public telecommunications services is properly registered.
