Last week, the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) ordered the dissolution and the beginning of the liquidation process of the Rural Savings and Credit Fund Raíz SAA (CRAC Raíz), after being intervened by the supervisory body, by the significant deterioration of its solvency. Given this, the affected savers will be covered by the Deposit Insurance Fund (FDS), which amounts to S/123,920 per person.
According to the SBS, a total of 56,432 savers will be able to recover 100% of their deposits, including the interest generated. This figure represents 96.3% of affected customers of the Rural Root Boxwhile the rest of the depositors not covered or partially covered will be reimbursed with the recovery of the assets and liquidity of the entity in intervention.
Caja Raíz: how will the refund be made to savers?
He Deposit Insurance Fund (FSD) announced that the entity in charge of payment of coverage to savers will be the Credit Bank of Peru (BCP). Likewise, it was reported that it will begin with the return as of this Tuesday, August 15, at the national offices of the bank.
To make the return effective, the SBS will publish on its institutional portal (www.sbs.gob.pe) the first list of savers who will be able to withdraw their deposits subject to coverage. In addition, the FSD will publish another statement to specify the payment date for clients not included in the first list.
“This first payment will include the savings and fixed-term deposits of natural persons who do not maintain joint accounts, CTS or debts with CRAC Raíz. Natural persons who maintain joint accounts, CTS or debts with CRAC Raíz will be included in the next lists,” detailed the Technical Secretariat of the Deposit Insurance Fund, through a statement.
It is important to mention that if the savings and fixed-term deposits were in foreign currency, the coverage will be paid in soles, using the accounting exchange rate of the day before the intervention (August 9, 2023) of CRAC Rootpublished by the SBS on its institutional portal (S/3,695).
