Shrimp, dragon fruit, avocados and plastic containers produced in Ecuador managed to enter new markets in the first days of August. There are five national companies that have exported, according to ProEcuador reports.

Thus, the Ecuadorian producer and export company Exportquilsa, which has been in the aquaculture sector for more than 15 years, sold shrimp to Italy and Greece for the first time.

According to ProEcuador, the negotiations were conducted following the company’s participation in the Food Expo Greece 2023 fair that took place in March and in a trade mission with an Italian company.

The number one position as the main non-oil export product is shrimp, which spent 3,182 million dollars in this area from January to May of this year compared to 3,098 dollars in 2022, which is an increase of 2.7 percent, according to the Ministry. of production, foreign trade, investment and fisheries, which cites the Central Bank of Ecuador as its source.

On the other hand, yellow pitahaya is still a sought after fruit in the US market. In late July and early August, ProEcuador indicated that Ecuadorian companies Inexlam and Pitavit exported fruit to new clients in the United States, after participating in the Macro business 2023 roundtable.

Avocado was also presented as an export product, which on this occasion reached a new customer in the Middle East through the company Interanza, after participating in a trade mission in the United Arab Emirates.

Regarding plastics, for the first time the Ecuadorian company Consuplast SA exported its plastic containers to the Guatemalan market, after participating in a trade mission with a customer developed in Ecuador.

According to the Central Bank of Ecuador, from January to May this year, non-oil exports amounted to $9.291 million compared to $8.805 million in the same period last year, which means an increase of 5.5%. The main destinations were, in that order, China, the United States of America, the European Union, Russia and Colombia.
