76% of industrialists does not plan to hire more staff in the next three months. Due, mainly, to the lower volume of production and sales, the lack of budget to hire, as well as the drop in market demand and political and social uncertainty at the national and international level, according to the latest Industrial Opinion Survey – II Quarter of 2023prepared by the Institute of Economic and Social Studies (IEES) of the National Society of Industries (SNI).
The study also reveals that 69% of businessmen in this sector does not plan to make investments during the next quarter. In this case, they indicate as main reasons political uncertainty, the dynamics of demand and the international context.
Production was reduced or maintained
40% of industrialists indicated that they had had a similar level of production during the second quarter of 2023, compared to a similar period of the previous year, while 35% indicated that they had lower production.
Of the businessmen who saw their production limited, 65% considered the lower demand for products as the first problem, 44% related it to political and economic uncertainty, 33% to the increase in input prices, 32% to high production costs, while 29% consider that insufficient liquidity is one of the fundamental determinants.
Lastly, it should be noted that 80% of the industrialists surveyed expect the situation of the Peruvian economy to be negative or the same for the next three months. Likewise, 77% expect the situation in their sector to remain the same or worsen for the next three months.
