Some played Pegasus, others collected chips. In the 1990s, these were treasures. Do you remember these gadgets?

At a time when few people had access to television, and smartphones were not even dreamed of, walkmans, tamagochis and iconic game boys gained popularity. Today, many fondly recall items that all children and teenagers dreamed of in the 1990s. Do you remember them all?

Certainly, it is not easy for today’s youth to imagine a time when mobile phones did not exist and there was only one program on television. However, it is a huge part of the lives of people brought up in the 90s. What gadgets had their five minutes back then? Today, many of them are experiencing a renaissance. We check which toys we are talking about.

These gadgets were popular more than three decades ago. What have you dreamed of having?

Highly developed technological progress meant that many items popular years ago are no longer applicable in today’s world. The once iconic walkmans, allowing you to play along with the songs of your favorite artists, are now replacing smartphones with unlimited access to music. The same is true of VHS tapes. Films were also recorded on them, and often important family moments were also immortalized. Sessions during which recordings were played back using a video recorder were a tradition in many homes. Today, they are being replaced by streaming platforms, whose collections are growing week by week.

If you think that due to the lack of computers, only board games were played, you are quite wrong. In the 90s, the equivalent of modern consoles was Pegasus. Probably not many of you even know what I’m talking about. It was the equivalent of the Japanese Famicom, the availability of which was almost impossible in Poland. However, if someone managed to find it, the price, which was exorbitant for those times, was effectively deterred from buying. It was Pegasus that was the remedy brought to the domestic market by Dariusz Wojdyga and Marek Jutkiewicz. Portable consoles quickly gained popularity and almost anyone could become their owner. On the Internet, you can still find iconic cartridges, i.e. carriers on which (often pirated) favorite games were downloaded, including Super Mario Bros.

These are the first barter items among children from the 90s. Did you have your own collections?

Their own collections were also a huge hit. Some of them collected the aforementioned cassettes with albums of the greatest bands with passion, others postage stamps or figurines. Equally popular in the collection were tokens, which were most often sought in chips. For companies, it was a way to increase demand, and for children it was a real fun. The small round plaques depicted various characters from popular films at the time, e.g. z Some of them, however, had an educational value, such as those containing information about exotic animals or different countries and continents.

The possibilities were endless, but by far the most popular were those that returned to favor in the 2000s. Binders filled to the brim with colorful pictures still remind many of their childhood. Most often they presented characters from fairy tales or cartoons, while teenagers were looking for those with the image of popular artists or bands. Individual copies, those which according to the owner were the most valuable, were stored in the so-called T-shirts and were not included in peer exchanges.
