With an investment of 25 million dollars, Pronaca began the expansion of its factory for the production of feed for chickens and pigs, located in Quevedo, province of Los Ríos, which would be ready in a year and a half.
The company indicated this with a statement in which Vladimir Yépez, the head of the Pronaca project, revealed that with this investment, the factory will go from producing 22,000 to 30,000 tons per month in the next ten years.
The first shipment of Ecuadorian chicken meat seduced the Bahamas, where 28 tons per week will continue to be exported.
“In this way, we are leveraging the sustainability of the chicken and pork business to face the next decade’s demand in the country,” the CEO said.
This expansion is taking place in a context where the consumption of chicken meat is growing by approximately 5% per year, according to figures from the National Corporation of Poultry Breeders of Ecuador (Conave). Meanwhile, an Ecuadorian eats an average of 11.4 kg of pork per year, according to the Association of Pig Breeders of Ecuador (ASPE).
“Amidst a growing market, the need for a sufficient amount of balanced feed for poultry and pigs becomes a priority. It is this need that leads Pronaca to anticipate the needs of the industry, in order to cover the demand for chicken protein that is expected in the coming years,” the company said.
The expansion of the factory has a complementary environmental impact study that confirms that Pronaca is in compliance with current environmental regulations, this also means that the new factory will use state-of-the-art technology that includes, among other things, systems to control dust, noise, temperature and air pollution.
Chicken meat is the most consumed protein in Ecuador and it wants to continue to grow: each person consumes 28 kg per year
In addition, another goal of the company is to strengthen the experimental complex, in which projects are managed that create options to reduce costs, improve efficiency and develop new raw materials for chicken, nutrition, genetics and animal health, among others.
This is done using state-of-the-art technology that allows increasing the number of evaluation repetitions, making investigative processes more efficient.
