He Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported that it will sign an agreement with the government of Japan for the provision of technical assistance, under the government-to-government (G2G) modality, for the execution of Road Axis No. 4, which will run through the Amazonas and Loreto regions.
As scheduled, the long-awaited highway that will link two of the most important regions of eastern Peru will be 213 kilometers long and will be paved.
Supreme Decree No. 010-2023-MTC, published on Friday, July 14 in the Official Gazette El Peruano, authorizes Provías Nacional to sign the government-to-government agreement for the “Implementation of a definitive solution on Road Axis 4 – Amazonas ”.
The document is signed by the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, and the Minister of Transport and Communications, Paola Lazarte.
This highway will comprise three sections: Duran Bridge-Wawico Bridge, which covers the province of Bagua; Wawico-Nuevo Siasme-Santa María de Nieva Bridge, which runs through the Bagua and Condorcanqui provinces; and Nuevo Siasme–Saramiriza, which includes the Condorcanqui and Datem del Marañón provinces.
“We are working to continue with the execution of works. The sector has the firm decision to move forward with Road Axis No. 4”, said the Vice Minister of Transportation, Ismael Sutta, about the upcoming signing of the agreement.
It should be remembered that the MTC began the process of selecting the government that will provide technical assistance for the execution of the aforementioned work by sending invitations to 18 states.
Within the framework of the G2G agreements, the state of Japan will establish a Project Management Office (PMO) that will provide technical assistance for the execution of Road Axis No. 4. The aforementioned office will be in charge of carrying out a international process to choose the construction company of the work.
