Unions highlight the “practically total” follow-up in the strike of the canning companies in Bizkaia

Unions have highlighted the follow-up “practically total” in the strike called for this Tuesday by the canning sector of Bizkaia in defense of “decent wages and working conditions”, as reported by ELA, LAB and CCOO.

From CCOO it has been pointed out in a first assessment that the struggle being carried out by the canning workers of Bizkaia on this day is “copy” with a “practically total” unemployment.

As he has indicated, the participation in the strike, called by ELA, CCOO, UGT and LAB, is “practically unanimous” on the part of the workers of the sector and, in particular, has underlined that the companies located in localities like Bermeo, Markina-Xemein and Ondarroa “they have stopped in its entirety”. LAB has set the follow-up to a 90 %.

CCOO recalled that the main demands demanded by the canning workers of Bizkaia are salary increases, reduction of the eventuality and end of the salary gap of genre.

For its part, ELA recalled that the workers have been mobilizing for weeks against the “lock” in the negotiation of the agreement of the sector and the employer’s association “still does not make a proposal for a salary increase that substantially improves the current misery salaries.”

ELA has affirmed that the employer’s proposal supposes “loss of purchasing power” and it has denounced that the employer “conditions the negotiation of the rest of matters to the acceptance of its salary proposal to the drop”.

The union has warned that, if after the “success” of the strike on Tuesday, the employer continues to refuse to negotiate, “the mobilizations and the days of strike will increase.”
