With more than 50 automotive brands participating, Guayaquil will again host the Autoshow in 2023, which will focus on the presentation of new models of electrified vehicles, said Expoplaza, the organizer of the event, which has been held since 1992 and is supported by the Ecuadorian Automobile Association (AEA). .

The event, which will take place from July 11 to 16 at the Guayaquil Convention Center, will also be used by some brands to present their strategies focused on new energies at the global level, but also in the local market, where the electrified segment shows significant sales growth.

At the Autoshow, brands confirm their trends towards hybrid and electric vehicles, which presented 38 new models in the first half of 2022

According to data from the Association of Automobile Companies of Ecuador (Aeada), from January to May, this vehicle segment maintained high dynamics in the Ecuadorian market with a 62% increase in sales, with 4,294 vehicles sold compared to the same period. 2022 (2,652 units sold). Electrified vehicles include MHEV (mild hybrid), HEV (conventional hybrid), PHEV (plug-in hybrid), EREV (extended range electric) and BEV (battery electric).

In May alone, sales rose 19.4% year-on-year, driven by the continued introduction of new available models, of which there are already 93 so far this year. Currently, the electrified segment represents 7% of the market, 2% more than in 2022. The market is led by gasoline-powered vehicles (70%), followed by diesel (23%).

One of the brands that will be present for the first time at the Autoshow, represented by Andor Corporation, is the Chinese company BYD, which arrived on the Ecuadorian market last May with three 100% electric vehicles: the Dolphin model, which is in great demand in China, with sales of up to 35,000 units per month; Yuan Plus EV, a compact SUV and one of the best-selling models in other markets; and Han, a sedan in the premium category.

Santiago Mena, brand manager from BYD Ecuador, assured that the brand has high expectations based on the acceptance of its models in the Ecuadorian market. “We will be at the Autoshow with our complete portfolio of zero-emission vehicles, and on the opening day, July 11, we will present a new member to be part of our portfolio in Ecuador,” said Mena.

The CEO of Chery explained that the launch of this new strategy is part of the global planning of the Asian company, which in May of this year announced its investments in sustainable initiatives in the amount of 50 million dollars. This strategy translates locally into the inclusion of hybrid and electrified models in all categories offered by the brand in the country.

“We want our customers to have a mobility alternative full of comfort and luxury, but without neglecting economy and commitment to the planet,” said the manager of the Chery brand in Ecuador.

Along these lines, Autoshow 2023 will also have an information area for electric cars, where participants will be able to learn about their peculiarities, characteristics and advantages presented by each of the participating brands. In addition, this year an electric car will be drawn among all visitors who purchase tickets to the Autoshow.
