The Minister of Economy and Finance, Alex Contrerassaid he expected inflation to remain low in July, after recording a first drop of 0.15% in June.
The head of the MEF assured that this lag in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 7.89% in May to 6.46% in June marks the path for an evident “reversal”.
“Regarding this moderation of inflation, we had announced that it would be reduced by more than one point in June. Fortunately, the trend has been occurring and we now have a clear reversal process,” he remarked.
It should be noted that, in the sixth month of the year, inflation was anchored by the fall in food prices, which fell 1.20%, and registered a negative contribution of -0.30%, which was “determinant” in the global , according to INEI.
“There are some goods that have helped this inflation reversal process to take place, and what we hope is that the same trend will continue in July,” the minister remarked.
The cumulative advance of inflation in 2023 is 2.52%. Previously, the advance was 0.56% and 0.32% in the months of April and May, respectively, with peaks that reached 1.25% in the first quarter.
