Cumulative production of hydrocarbons in Peru fell in May, with the exception of natural gas

Accumulated production of hydrocarbons in Peru until last May fell 5.7% in oil, 4.5% in natural gas liquids and 4.9% in liquid hydrocarbons, while natural gas grew 5.9%, compared to the same period of 2022, according to the bulletin of the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE) released this Monday.

Last May, the production of liquid hydrocarbons (oil and natural gas liquids) fell to 121,500 barrels per day, which represented a 5.4% drop compared to the same month in 2022.

In the case of oil, production in that month dropped to 41,600 barrels per day, 8.3% less than in May of last year, indicated the SNMPE’s Monthly Hydrocarbon Statistical Bulletin.

The fall was due to a lower production of lots 67 of the company Perenco, lot X of CNPC and lot XIII of Olympic.

Natural gas production rose in May

Regarding natural gas liquids, production fell to 79,900 barrels per day, which meant a decrease of 3.9% compared to last May due to the decrease in activity of blocks 57, 88, 31-C and Z- 2B.

Regarding natural gas, last May there was a production of 1,385 million cubic feet per day, which meant a reduction of 1.8% compared to May last year.

Investments in the sector rose to US$91.9 million, in the period from January to April, which represented an increase of 46% compared to the same period last year, and most of the capital was directed to exploitation.

Regarding the royalties generated by the activity, they fell to US$553 million, from last January to May, since they decreased by 40% compared to the same period in 2022.

In relation to the May activity that generated 87.8 million dollars, a total of US$40.9 million came from royalties generated by natural gas, another US$31 million from natural gas liquids and US$15.7 million from Petroleum.
