EV6, Kia’s 100% electric vehicle, completed its first trip on the Quito-Guayaquil route nonstop

The car offers 540 kilometers of range on a single charge and is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2022.

The new Kia EV6 successfully passed the endurance test that was imposed this Monday after leaving the city of Quito in the direction of Guayaquil, in a direct and non-stop tour. Demonstrating the strength and autonomy offered by the vehicle’s battery were the main objectives of the Korean automotive brand with this trip.

The vehicle, which has 540 kilometers of autonomy on a single charge, left the city of Quito in the morning of this Monday and arrived in Guayaquil at night. Former miss Ecuador Virginia Limongi and the Ecuadorian singer-songwriter Daniel Betancourth, were chosen to make the trip.

Ramiro Cornejo placeholder image, general manager of the brand in the country, indicated that Kia chose Ecuador, regionally, to launch the vehicle since the brand has been a leader in the country for many years and this confirms the commitment they have to seek driving options friendly to the planet and efficient for users. In addition to his desire to turn Ecuador into a global promoter of sustainability.

He mentioned that more units have not yet entered the country since details are being finalized to start with the sale to the public and celebrated that the eventual elimination of the Special Consumption Tax (ICE) on hybrid and electric vehicles will facilitate the arrival and sale of these prototypes nationwide.

“We are waiting for details, but by the first quarter of 2022 the vehicle will be available,” he said and highlighted that the route they chose was to demonstrate the autonomy of the battery that can be fully charged in a period of time of 20 minutes to 4 hours, depending on the charging source.

“If a vehicle can make the Quito-Guayaquil route, it breaks any paradigm of the number of times it needs to be charged or the amount of performance it can have in the city,” said Cornejo and said that in the coming weeks they hope to publicize the official price that the prototype will have.

Kia believes that the arrival of the EV6 in the country is a step forward in technology. Cornejo highlights that they already have several products within the line of sustainable mobility, between electric and hybrid, and that this model becomes a complement to the portfolio.

The brand plans to present eleven hybrid and electric vehicles by 2025. The EV6 is Kia’s second 100% electric car to be available in the country. The first was the Kia Soul, with a range of 180 kilometers, which has been marketed for seven years in the country and of which some 300 units have already been sold, said the manager.

“Sustainable mobility is a challenge that we set ourselves many years ago and we have witnessed everything that we can do little by little for seven years ago,” he said.

The arrival event was attended by the Minister of the Environment, Gustavo Manrique, who highlighted that Terpel Ecuador, a company with more than one hundred gas stations nationwide, will begin to install electric stations for those who choose to acquire or already have an electric vehicle.

“This month they will install two electric stations … we can have the vehicles, but if there is no charging network it does not matter … the idea is to start in the main cities so that they can be recharging points that can allow you to continue moving “, stressed Manrique and stressed that this type of vehicle” helps to live on a better planet for future generations. “

For his part, Betancourth, who drove the vehicle during the trip, highlighted the novelties that the car offers its passengers and the comfort with which they made the trip.

“We understood very well what was the intention of the brand, what is the contribution it is making to our country, we really enjoyed it … we felt in the future knowing that we may already be consuming these cars that are ecological. We are in a sustainable era, it feels good that Ecuador is taking these steps, “he said.

The vehicle will be available at two versions: EV6 GT 2WD, which has a power of 168 kW, 350 NM of torque, an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds, 2WD transmission, autonomy of 528 kilometers; and the version EV6 GT 4WD, which has a power of 239 kW, 605 NM of torque; an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds, 4WD transmission, provides a range of up to 506 kilometers.

The Korean brand has highlighted that the main attributes of the vehicle are the interior design and technologyIt has a sunroof, a 360-degree monitor; a 12.3-inch control panel; 12.3-inch radio touch with a powerful and complete audio system and Bluetooth with multi-connection.

Another aspect to highlight, according to Kia, is the security that the vehicle will provide to the driver and his companions since it has six airbags (front, side and curtain) and with a Forward Collision Assist and Blind Spot Display Monitor.

It also offers a Lane Keeping and Following Assist, Road Driving Assist, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist, Intelligent Parking Assist, Tire Pressure Monitor, Multi-Collision Braking Assist and stop & go, electric seat adjustment, smart cruise speed, driving mode selector (normal, eco and sport), among other innovations.
