On the horizon of the El Niño phenomenon, the most prudent thing to do is not to readjust taxes, said Minister Alex Contreras.

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), Alex Contreraspointed out this Tuesday that during this year the Selective Consumption Tax (ISC) will not be raised.

It is worth clarifying that the readjustment was planned this year, but the official already considered extending the measure towards the end of the current year. Now the increase in the ISC will take place at the beginning of 2024.

“Depending on the circumstances, we will evaluate it, but I already believe that one year is a sufficient period for companies to begin to adjust, and on the verge of the arrival of a Child, the worst thing we could do is adjust taxes,” he told the press.

Contreras Miranda addressed the winemakers and reiterated that the ISC adjustment — which corresponded to June — will no longer be made this year.
