The Regional Government of Moquegua (GORE Moquegua) manages an advance of S/200 million of its mining canon, in order to finance works and development projects in the department. Negotiations with the Executive Power are advanced and the decree should be published shortly.
Sector sources reported that half of the budget would go to GORE Moquegua, while the other would go to municipalities.
“In the case of Quellaveco, production began in September of last year. This year it should be generating the resources to start paying royalties in 2024,” he said.
It should be noted that Quellaveco is not the only operation that generates mining canon in Moquegua, there are other mines such as Cuajone, from Southern. Moquegua led Peru’s mining investment in April 2023.
On the other hand, Anglo American confirmed its goal of more than 300,000 MT of copper concentrates for this year. For now, the molybdenum plant began operations in record time and it is expected to reach 10,000 MT per year.
“We are now working to reach our maximum plant production capacity this year (127.5 ktpd),” the company said.
Quellaveco: Sustainable Mining Plan
Anglo American He specified that his sustainability strategy for this year contemplates “ambitious goals to generate environmental and social improvements in the Moquegua region and the country.”
The strategy includes promoting collaborative spaces with other private companies and public institutions. Anglo American’s Sustainable Mining Plan is aligned with the FutureSmart Mining model.
Along these lines, for example, the only “Smart Greenhouse” in Peru has been installed, which has already produced around 4,000 queñua seedlings. The goal is to create a forest of 100 hectares.
They are also installing 7 water treatment plants and 9 antennas that will provide high-speed telecommunication to neighboring towns to Quellaveco, among other activities.
