He Ministry of Production (Produce) set to 500,000 tons the catch quota of the Peruvian giant squid or squid (Dosidicus gigas) for the period of 2023.
Through ministerial resolution No. 000213-2023-PRODUCE, it is indicated that the extractive activities of the resource must be concluded in three cases: when the established catch limit is reached or estimated to be reached, if IMARPE recommends it due to circumstances environmental or biological, or from September 30 of this year.
“The Ministry of Production, based on the development of extractive activities and the landings of the giant squid or squid (Dosidicus gigas) resource, establishes the necessary measures to take advantage of said resource within the sustainable margins recommended by IMARPE”, it can be stated also read in said resolution, which has the signature of the head of the Production, Raúl Pérez Reyes Espejo.
It should be noted that, previously, it had been established that the squid catch quota for this year would be 420,000 tons. However, the recent resolution indicates a quota similar to the period 2022, when 500,000 tons were also granted.
