The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) confirmed a fine for S/1 million 732,500 (350 UIT) against the company Viettel PerĂº SAC, which operates commercially in Peru as bitel.

Through the resolution of the board of directors No. 00174-2023-CD/OSIPTEL, the appeal filed by the company on May 5, after being initially sanctioned on April 12, was declared unfounded.

It was verified that the Vietnamese-funded company did not stop contracting its mobile public service at points of sale not reported to Osiptel, such as points of sale located on public roads and/or outpatient services.

With this, article 28 of the General Regulation of Infractions and Sanctions was infringed, by not contemplating what is stipulated in the last paragraph of article 11-D of the Single Ordered Text of the Conditions of Use1, explained the regulatory body.

This resolution, which bears the signature of the body’s head, Rafael Muente Schwarz, exhausts the administrative route, “no additional appeal being made through that channel.”

“The fact that Viettel has not complied with ceasing the contracting of its mobile public service in -either one or all of the points of sale not reported to Osiptel- entails a great impact on users, as they are exposed to contracting problems, identity theft, misuse of personal data, among others,” said Osiptel.
