Days after the confirmation of the cancellation of the first anchovy fishing season, the Peruvian Sea Institute (Imarpe) resolved the separation of Enrique Sebastián Soto Ruiz from the position of general manager of the research institute.
Through the resolution of scientific executive management No. 115-2023-IMARPE/DEC, it was resolved to terminate the appointment of Mr. Soto Ruiz, thanking him for the services provided to the entity. He had been in office since March 31, 2022.
The decision is made after the IMARPE Board of Directors, in its session on June 15, agreed to revoke the appointment, through Agreement No. 034-2023-CD/O.
Precisely, the day before, Minister Raúl Pérez-Reyes ruled out that there is pressure from the industry, led by the National Fisheries Society (SNP), to reopen the fishing season, despite the incidence of juveniles.
“We have clearly established that there is no first season. There would have to be very notable changes to be able to open the season. At this moment, those changes are not observed. (…) The only thing I do want to say is that I do not want speculation in relation to the fact that ‘they can open the season’. At this moment, it is clear that they cannot”, he highlighted for La República.
Imarpe is a Specialized Technical Organization of the Production Sector, Fisheries Subsector, oriented towards scientific research, as well as the study and knowledge of the Peruvian sea and its resources.
