UTP teachers union denounces arbitrary dismissals of unionized teachers

The Single Union of Professors of the Technological University of Peru (SUPRUTP) denounced that heThe teachers who are part of its board of directors are being subjected to a massive, arbitrary and indiscriminate dismissal by the house of studies owned by the Intercorp Group.

The union also described their current working conditions as inadequate and counterproductive for the optimal performance of their duties.

In this sense, they stressed that the remuneration they currently receive is unfair. “We reiterate that fair payment is not made for the academic hours taught, being a fact that undervalues our professional work and compromises our dedication and performance,” said the SUPRUTP in a statement.

They also denounced that the university does not recognize the time dedicated to preparing classes and reviewing student work, crucial activities to guarantee a quality teaching and learning process.

They also warned about the lack of social protection for teachers. “The lack of subsidized health insurance (EPS) is evident, a fundamental right for all workers, which would allow us to have adequate medical care and peace of mind in terms of health,” they said.

Among the problems they made public are also insufficient infrastructure, workplace harassment and union repression.

“From SUPUTP we urge the administration of the Technological University of Peru to address these concerns and establish a constructive dialogue to find solutions to these problems. We firmly believe that a university is as strong as its faculty, and that the well-being of professors is directly proportional to the quality of the education provided,” they concluded.
