Movistar will increase its mobile line rates by up to S/6

Users of the Movistar company reported that the operator will increase the rates of your mobile line. According to the company’s announcement, via text messages, the price increase will take place from June 26.

Movistar was able to confirm this news to La República and pointed out that this rise is part of a progressive increase that they announced in April and that began to apply from May 1. In addition, they indicated that the increase in rates varies depending on the plan of each mobile service. The company pointed out to this newsroom that the average increase is S/3.50.

However, a user told La República that his mobile plan from S/59.9 will increase to S/65.9, that is, S/6 more than usual. According to the company, if the client is not satisfied with the tax, he can migrate to another plan, opt out or transfer to another operator.

As read on the website of Movistarat the time the user acquired the service, through a contract, “it is established that the operator will be able to make tariff increases to the plans and services”. In addition, they point out that the changes in rates apply once the users of the service are informed.

Can Osiptel prevent rate increases?

According to Osiptel, the agency cannot prevent rate increases. “In the telecommunications services market, the operating companies are governed by free market conditions, that is, they are free to set their rates,” they indicate.

However, they warn that what is prohibited is that the operator provides a service with fewer benefits than those established in the contract, such as the number of minutes, data, additional services, among others.
