ONP: propose that the minimum pension be equivalent to the minimum wage

He congressman Paul Gutiérrez Ticona from the Bloque Magisterial bench presented this Tuesday, June 6, the bill n° 5242 that establishes an increase in the minimum pension for retirees from the National Pension System (SNP).

Thus, the pensioners of the ONP and beneficiaries of the social security system of the Decree Law 19990 who have 20 years of contributions and 65 years of age, would receive a minimum retirement amount equal to one current minimum wagetoday set at S/1,025.

ONP pensions: “not enough for basic expenses”

The foundations of the proposal are limited to the fact that the current pension of the ONP retirees —despite long years of contributions— are far from satisfying the financial and They are not enough to cover basic expenses.

“This pension must be commensurate with the cost of living and allow a decent subsistence for the pensioner and their dependents. Unfortunately, in the pensioners of the pension regime of Decree Law 19990, are derisory and put at risk the retired subjecting them to a extreme poberty”reads the document.

ONP: how much is the minimum and maximum pension of law 19990?

In the case of the regime retirement established by Decree Law 19990the current minimum retirement pension is S/500, while the maximum is S/893.

Let’s remember that from 2002 to 2019, the minimum retirement amount was set at S/415. After almost two decades, it only had an increase of just S/85, which remains in force to date.
