Future of the octagons in milk formulas will go to the Consumer Defense Commission

This Monday, June 5, during the ordinary session of the Zero Hunger Commissionit was approved to authorize the law that regulates the preparation and marketing of Special Diet Foods for vulnerable populations (PL 1941/2021 and 3253/2022) pass to the Consumer Defense Commission and regulatory bodies as the second ruling group together with the Health Commission.

Among the reasons stated, it is indicated that said autograph constitutes an exception to the Law for the Promotion of Healthy Eating for Boys, Girls and Adolescents (Law No. 30021) and that it was not previously considered by the instance that watches over consumer rights.

“Our commission has the initiative and can request the board of directors so that the autograph observed be decreed to the Consumer Defense Commission and regulatory bodies as a second ruling commission in defense of small consumers of breast milk substitutes,” it was pointed out in the session.

It should be noted that there were no comments by any congressman in the session, so the proposal had the green light.

As recalled, the Executive Branch observed, last Tuesday, May 30, said PL 1941/2021 and 3253/2022, which among its points sought to exonerate formulas and supplements for children from the octagons on their containers that indicate high levels of sugar or fat Along these lines, it was denounced that the norm responded to a possible lobby of the pharmaceutical industry and entities such as the Peruvian Association of Consumers and Users (Aspec) and the College of Nutritionists of Peru spoke out against the PL because it would be harming freedom of users to know what they consume and therefore the health of infants.
