Osinergmin: electricity rates will be reduced for homes and businesses from June 4, 2023

The Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) reported that electricity rates for homes, businesses and industrial will be reduced from Sunday June 4, 2023in line with the provisions of current regulations on updating electricity rates.

The electricity rates of the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN) will be reduced on average 0.64% for home users and 0.27% for commercial and industrial users. It should be noted that the value of electricity is made up of the efficient costs of generating, transmitting and distributing electricity to users.

On the other hand, the electricity rates of the Isolated Electrical Systems will be reduced on average by 1.78% for residential users and by 2.86% for commercial and industrial users.

In accordance with current regulations, electricity rates are reviewed by Osinergmin every month, based on update formulas and values ​​of indicators such as the Wholesale Price Index (IPM), the exchange rate, the price of natural gas, fuel prices, copper and aluminum prices; as well as the contracts signed between generation and distribution companies to provide electricity to users.

The entity also explained that the reduction in June is due to the following factors: the modification of tolls and compensation for Secondary and Complementary Transmission Systems, due to the updating of the energy sales of Electro Ucayali and changes in the valuation of the Luz del Sur facilities, among others.

In addition, the application of the formulas for updating the fixed charge and the Value Added Distribution (VAD) for the variation of the IPM, the exchange rate, the price of copper and the price of aluminum. Likewise, the COVID-19 adjustment factors were applied due to the culmination of the health emergency.

The data:

  • During the current year to the month of June, there is an accumulated reduction of 6.94% for residential users and 7.40% for commercial and industrial users.
