The Executive Branch observed on Tuesday the law of Congress that exonerated formulas and supplements for children to place octagons on their containers.

In this regard, Jaime Delgado, a lawyer specializing in consumer defense, argued that the law of Congress violated the right to information of parents when buying these products that contain more sugar than soft drinks, and urged the public stay vigilant for industry to comply with using the octagons.

Both the Medical College of Peru and the College of Nutritionists questioned the law, since it harms the public health of vulnerable populations.

The document of the Executive Branch — sent to Congress within the deadline — establishes that the law of Congress contravenes the actions ordered by the Government in defense of children and adolescents, and urged compliance with consigning the octagons in these productseven those of special diets such as breast milk substitutes (that is, the formulas and supplements in question).

Likewise, Dr. Elmer Huerta pointed out that Peru will be the first country to demand that food warnings be placed on said industry.
