In 90 days, 85-octane gasoline would disappear and be replaced by 87-octane gasoline, according to Petroecuador’s plan, which was discussed this morning by Energy Minister Fernando Santos Alvite.

The minister said that currently the import of lower quality gasoline, such as 85 octane, is becoming more complicated because it has been abolished. In this sense, Petroecuador’s plan, devised by international trade manager Reinaldo Armijos, would stop producing this low-quality gasoline, but would replace it with 87 octane, which would have the same frozen price as the current 85, the statement said. , $2.40 per gallon.

Super and ecoplus gasoline will be cheaper, the recommended price for May is reduced by 2 and 14 cents per gallon

At the same time, he commented that 89 (ecoplus) and 95 octane (super premium) gasolines are not well promoted and that is why consumers do not spend. However, the appearance of this new fuel contributes to the improvement of gasoline quality.

The minister emphasized that due to global problems with fuel prices, the state will not be affected by the subsidy. Therefore, it will cost the state and the consumer the same.

Ecoplús 89 gasoline ‘survives’ at some gas stations with a 0.1% market share

For Oswald Erazo, executive secretary of the Chamber of Petroleum Distributors (Camddepe), this is good news for fuel improvement. However, he reminded that 87 octane gasoline already existed in Lenin Moreno’s government, but the octane number was reduced. In this sense, it would return to the same levels that already existed. He also reminded that the government improved 92 octane gasoline by replacing it with 95, but that fuel only makes up 2 percent of the market. On the other hand, 85 octane gasoline represents 52%.

Meanwhile, regarding the ecoplus 89 petrol, he commented that it did not have the necessary reception and that it would also disappear.
