Congress proposes to deliver a bonus of S/1,732 to convert traditional motorcycle taxis to electric

Congressman José Pazo Nunura, from the Somos Perú bench, proposes creating the “Taxmo” electric voucher to convert a car or motorcycle taxi to a hybrid electric one in order to develop and transform the public transport system. D.In this way, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve its efficiency and gradually replace the use of fossil fuels. The subsidy will have a value of S/1,732 (35% of a UIT).

It is specified that the growth of the automotive fleet of the public transport service with conventional units, gasoline or oil, generates high levels of environmental pollution, so it is necessary to promote actions aimed at promoting the electromobility of the Peruvian automotive fleet.

Bill No. 5113, presented on Friday, May 19, states that the requirements that must be met to access the Taxmo program are the following:

1. Conventional vehicles that do not exceed 15 years old
2. Authorization to provide the public taxi or motorcycle taxi service
3. No fines or administrative sanctions
4. Validity of the technical revision certificate
5. Validity of compulsory traffic accident insurance

“Public transport in our country has become an environmental and health problem, so the electricity sector is an option to solve these problems. Although, for decades, the dominant vehicle in the automotive industry has been the internal combustion engine vehicle, we must indicate that this domain has been undergoing changes, with electric mobility being one of the global trends. that points to said transformation from the electrification of transport”, the document states.

The legislative initiative must pass through the evaluation of the commissions of the Congress of the republic before reaching plenary for debate and voting. If approved, the Executive and their respective sectors must implement financing mechanisms to improve the process of converting vehicles to hybrid or electric.
