The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) pointed out that during the meeting between members of the Executive Power and the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy (SNMPE), it reaffirmed its respect for fundamental rights, the constitutional and legal framework in force, and freedom of enterprise. , in a context of legal stability based on the principle of predictability for the private investments (small, medium and large), and improvement of the social and environmental environment.
“In this framework, and in relation to the latest events, we discard the closure and request for the unilateral withdrawal of the operations of the mining units, which comply with the legal requirements and conditions established in the national legislation and sectorial, and that they have the corresponding permits in force, “said the PCM through a statement.
Likewise, he stressed that the “Mining companies can request extensions, extensions and modifications to their permits to explore and exploit in strict adherence to what is established by current regulations ”.
In this sense, he specified that it will be the competent authorities that will evaluate said requests in accordance with the legislation, having to comply with the processes of citizen participation and transparency.
The Executive also clarified that the closure plans (progressive, final and post closure) and their modifications, presented by the companies and approved by the competent authorities, are managed and controlled by the State in accordance with current regulations so that “the cessation of activities is carried out within a framework environmental sustainable”.
Finally, the PCM reiterated that the current government seeks to promote a new approach for active and positive relationships between the mining companies and the populations of the areas of influence, in order to address the concerns of the communities and care for the environment.
“This approach is a new treatment of social conflicts in order to give them a real and sustainable solution, generating social peace for a harmonious development of business activity, within the current legal framework,” he stated.
