Barbarán: “We will open the doors for financial entities to compete with the AFPs”

The president of the Economy Commission of the CongressRosangella Barbarán, pointed out this Monday, May 15, that the pension reform proposal, which is being debated in the management group she leads, states that the financial entities can compete with the Pension Fund Administrators (AFP), in order to attract individual funds from the affiliates.

“We are going to open the door so that the institutions of the financial system can enter to compete, but with one requirement: that this fund is intangible so that it works in the same way as a fund managed by an AFP”he said in an interview with Andina.

The congresswoman from people force maintained that the initiative stems from the right of the affiliate better choose the financial entity that best suits you to manage your fund. “If an institution other than an AFP offers me a return with a fixed term of 8%, I will be happy with it. I will be able to choose the highest profitability and I will be more sure of knowing who and how my money is being managed”, he commented.

High commissions in the AFP

The legislator asserted that “the AFPs have already understood that there must be a commission for performance because it is unfair that the money manager always wins, while the owner of the money loses.

How is an AFP or bank going to be paid if it is not giving me profitability and the funds fall?; it’s not fair. These modifications have to be made, ”he said.

About AFP withdrawals

To date, there are eight proposals in the Congress requesting a seventh AFP withdrawal. One of the most talked about is the one that allows the availability of up to 4 UIT (S/19,800), raised in February by parliamentarian Digna Calle, however to date it is awaiting an opinion. On these initiatives, the Fujimorista considered that “a withdrawal is not the solution to a problem.”

“It is a sensitive issue and there are different realities. There are people who are out of work and surviving with little savings, and there are others who are living well, but want their money, however, up to now, all the opinions of various institutions have been negative.(…) It cannot be possible for us to believe that withdrawal is the solution to a problem for the contributor.People need money, but where does that money have to come from? I personally do not think it should be from their resources“he asserted.

Finally, barbaran advanced that Next Wednesday, May 24, the general lines will be presented of the pension reform proposal, with the aim of debating it to give birth to an opinion. She pointed out that in parallel, she has been coordinating with the Labor Commission, chaired by legislator Sigrid Bazán, so that once the opinion is approved, “it quickly goes to plenary.”
