The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) will have ready, in the next few days, the second proposal of the regulation of Law 31557, which taxes remote sports betting, according to the Vice Minister of Tourism, Madeleine Burns.
“The regulation of the online sports betting law is already going to be published in its second stage, following the procedures of the regulatory impact analysis. This regulation will be pre-published again, including all the observations of the first pre-publication, this week,” Burns said. in the Foreign Trade and Tourism Commission of the Congress.
Law 31557 was approved by the Legislature in June of last year and promulgated the following month. Since then, the Mincetur had a period of 120 business days to prepare the regulations. The first pre-publication of it was made on November 13, 2022.
The norm seeks to regulate this type of business that mobilizes close to US$1,000 million each year and does not pay any type of tax.
Congressman and former Mincetur head Roberto Sánchez indicated that the law would allow tax collection of US$160 million per year. These resources will be allocated to tourism, sports and mental health.
