exports of peruvian flowers totaled US$2.72 million in the first quarter of 2023, an increase of 12% compared to the same period last year, when shipments reached US$1.857 million.
The Association of Exporters (Adex) recalled that this sector was greatly affected at the beginning of the pandemic due to COVID-19. However, the national sector was able to recover thanks to “the constant work of its members.”
Regarding Mother’s Day, the manager of Agro-exports of the business union, Claudia Solano, said that the April figures are also expected to be “auspicious”, with which the first four-month period of the year would also close in blue.
“From Adex we continue to promote strategic actions in favor of strengthening floriculture with the aim that our offer reaches more markets, one of them is the lifting of sanitary barriers, whose work is led by Senasa (National Agrarian Health Service) “, said.
Solano Oré also highlighted that in 2021 the health authority achieved access for the wax flowers to the important Colombian market, and a few months ago to the Brazilian market.
It should be noted that, in the last 5 years -taking into account only the January-March period-, shipments of Peruvian flowers achieved a positive behavior despite internal and external factors that affected the sector: 8% in 2019, 3% in in 2020, 21% in 2021, 2% in 2022 and 12% in 2023.
