Viva Air announces the definitive cessation of all its operations

Colombian airline Viva Air announced, through a statement, the total end of all its operations after 11 years of activity. This occurs after the company Avianca did not agree to join due to the conditions imposed by the aeronautical authority of the Colombian nation, Aerocivil.

“After receiving the conditions and evaluating the impact on Viva’s operation, it was found that it was not possible to comply with them and, at the same time, be sustainable and profitable over time, maintaining the low-cost model. In this way we reached this outcome that destroys a company and all the value around it due to the lack of understanding of the business.”, can be read in the letter.

In addition, they specified that they tried to carry out all the necessary actions to save the company from the crisis and avoid closure, but the objective was not achieved.

“The company deeply thanks all its collaborators, who worked tirelessly to make this dream come true: promoting air inclusion and connecting millions of travelers. In the same way, it also expresses its gratitude to suppliers, and its entire network of allies for the work carried out in a decade of operations”, they concluded.

As recalled, at the end of March, Viva Air suspended its activities indefinitely, a situation that affected passengers from all over Latin America. In Peru, thousands of citizens were unable to make their flights to Colombia or local destinations such as Cusco, while hundreds more were stranded in the Colombian country.

For their part, before the untimely song, airlines such as Latam Airlines Peru, JetSmart and Sky covered some scheduled transfers. In addition, the Peruvian consulate in Colombia also provided assistance to affected travelers.
