Poverty by Geographic Location
Monetary poverty affected 41.1% of the population in rural areas and 24.1% in urban areas, registering increases of 1.4% and 1.8%, respectively. When comparing these results with those reported in 2019, in the urban area the incidence of poverty grew by 9.5% and in the rural area by 0.3%.
For their part, the regions with a poverty level above 40% were: Cajamarca, Huánuco, Puno, Ayacucho and Pasco. Between 30% and 40% are Loreto, Huancavelica, the Constitutional Province of Callao and Piura.
They present poverty levels between 20% and 30%, La Libertad, Amazonas, Metropolitan Lima, San Martín, Tumbes, Apurímac, Tacna, Lima Provinces, Ucayali, Cusco, Junín and Áncash. On the other hand, a lower incidence of poverty was reported in Ica, Moquegua, Madre de Dios, Arequipa and Lambayeque.
Extreme poverty
In the year 2022, extreme poverty reached 5.0% of the country’s population and increased by 0.9% compared to the year 2021; while, when compared to the year 2019, it was higher by 2.1%.
Poverty was higher in the rural area (14.6%) than in the urban area (2.6%), registering increases of 2.5% and 0.5%, compared to the year 2021

The poverty line for last year is the monetary equivalent to the cost of a basic basket of food and non-food consumption, which for this period was S/ 415 per month per inhabitant, that is, for a family of four members said amount amounts to S/1,660 per month.
While the extreme poverty line, for the year 2022 amounted to S/226 per month per person, considering people in a situation of extreme poverty whose monthly spending does not cover the value of the basic food consumption basket, for a family of four members said amount amounts to S / 904 per month.
