Peruvian exports would have reached US$5,803 million in March of this year, which represents a growth of 7.67% compared to the same month in 2022, according to estimates by the Institute for Foreign Trade Research and Development of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (idexcam).

“The increase in the exported value was mainly due to shipments from the sector minerwhose participation percentage was 61.12% valued at US$3,547 million, an amount that showed a growth of 28.73% compared to March 2022,” said Carlos Posada, executive director of Idexcam.

In detail, the minerals of copper and its concentrates reached 944,050 tons (+77.78%) for US$1,940 million (+73.40%); followed by gold bars, 25 tons (-30.73%) for US$575 million (-19.29%); and refined copper cathodes, 34,281 tons (+157.26%) for US$305 million (+134.64%).

Non-traditional agriculture was also a relevant sector for Peruvian shipments with US$571 million, while shipments of fresh avocados reached 43,724 tons (+36.68%) for US$86 million (+42.27%); the fresh grapes, 30,120 tons (+75.66%) for US$74 million (+78.70%); and fresh mangoes, 33,182 tons (-17.43%) for US$39 million (-21.01%).

To which countries do we export?

Among the main export destinations during the month of March, China stood out with US$2,269 million (+23.74%); United States, US$794 million (+29.16%); Japan, US$296 million (-6.74%); South Korea, US$273 million (-37.62%); and Canada, US$229 million (+0.16%).

The increase in exports to China It was mainly due to shipments of copper ores and their concentrates, a product line that accumulated a 63.93% share of the total value exported to said market, specifically, 722,941 tons (+58.47%) for US$1,451 million. (+55.64%)”, said Posada.

While, regarding USA, shipments of gold bars stood out with 14 tons (-11.26%) for US$131 million (+48.34%); refined copper cathodes, 14,289 tons (+590.22%) for US$127 million (+507.10%); and molybdenum minerals and their concentrates, 3,537 tons (+18.84%) for US$122 million (+120.03%).
