  • Can I withdraw the CTS they deposit in May 2023?

The Minister of Energy and Mines, oscar verapointed out that the Tía María mining project —located in Islay, Arequipa— is on the government’s agenda.

“The number of issues that we are seeing is great, but (Tía María) is within our reactivation plans. It is a job that has to do with the communities and we are already starting with a strategy in coordination with the authorities. We hope to have better news in the coming months.”the official told RPP.

It is worth noting that this is a project that seeks to process the copper exploited from the La Tapada and Tía María deposits, and belongs to the firm Southern Peru Copper Corporation, of Mexican parent; but for a decade it has been stagnant because the people of Islay notice irregularities in their Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

At the start of her regime, President Dina Boluarte also maintained to RPP that “nothing is closed” with Tía María, but you must “respect life and the environment”to the point that “you cannot put the issue of gold, silver, above water.”
