This Thursday, May 4, the General Confederation of Workers of Peru (CGTP) presented to the Ministry of Labor and Employment Promotion (MTPE) a statement with 26 points to alleviate the situation of the national workforce “in a context of economic crisis due to high informality, unemployment and inflation.”
Among their main demands are the increase in the minimum vital remuneration to recover the purchasing power of workers, according to Gerónimo López, general secretary of the CGTP.
In addition, Minister Antonio Varela was also asked to reduce the maximum working day to only 8 hours or 48 hours per week; and also guarantee part-time workers access to vacations, bonuses, overtime and job security.
“The lack of a clear regulation promotes the violation of rights,” said López.
In addition, they asked Varela not abandon the defense of the decrees that regulate labor outsourcing (and annul it in the essential activities of companies) and the right to freedom of associationand also the implementation of a Labor Code and the return to the payment of the right to profits from the gross income of the companies.
