BCRP: average real income in Metropolitan Lima is 11% below 2019

During the first quarter of 2023, the average income in Metropolitan Lima was S/1,841, which meant a nominal increase of 7.3% compared to 2019 (S/1,716). However, in real terms -that is, adjusted for inflation- it is still 11% below the level pre-pandemicas revealed by the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) in its study note No. 28.

By productive sector, workers in the construction They were the most affected at the end of the third month of the year, since they registered an average income of S/1,925, which represents a decline of 7.1% compared to 2019 (S/2,072). Likewise, in real terms it is lower by 22.9% compared to three years ago.

Meanwhile, the average real income in manufacturing is 10.2% lower than before the pandemic. While in the services sector it is 9% below 2019, according to the report of the monetary entity.

Income in the private sector

On the other hand, in the private sector the average income in February stood at S/2,866, 4.2% more than in the same month of 2022. However, in real terms it decreased by 4.1%.

In detail, only fishing (114%), manufacturing (1.0%) and electricity (6.5%) register real income higher than the previous year. While in mining (-25.8%), construction (-5.0%), commerce (-3.5%), agriculture (3.4%) and services (-1.7%) a drop.
